Rachel Butler, PhD, LP, HSP is a clinical psychologist and an Assistant Professor at Transylvania University. Dr. Butler’s passion for providing high quality care translates to her research, which aims to develop and test novel treatments for eating and anxiety disorders.
Dr. Butler has extensive training and experience in evidence-based treatments for individuals with anxiety, eating disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress, and depression, among other concerns. Dr. Butler’s expertise in these areas developed during her doctoral training at Temple University where she trained in the Adult Anxiety Clinic at Temple (AACT) under the mentorship of Dr. Richard Heimberg, as well as in the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety (CTSA) at the University of Pennsylvania under Dr. Edna Foa. She is certified in Exposure and Response Prevention for OCD and in Prolonged Exposure for PTSD through the CTSA.
Dr. Butler received specialized training in the treatment of eating disorders at the Drexel WELL Center and the UCSD Center for Eating Disorders Treatment and Research. Dr. Butler has worked at all levels of care including outpatient clinics, a partial hospitalization program, and an inpatient unit.
Dr. Butler takes an evidence-based approach to working with clients and tends to integrate cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based approaches. Dr. Butler works as a team with her clients to identify their goals for therapy and create a plan to help them achieve those goals.
